SCRATCH & MAKEY-MAKEY
by Jon M. Stapleton
Scratch is a playful coding interface which makes coding an intuitive, Lego-like experience. You can use MaKey-MaKey, a simple USB keyboard interface, to create fun ways of interacting with the code. I have linked some resources below, but it's equally valid for you to learn by doing rather than following a tutorial or replicating something. Scratch works by stacking blocks, and MaKey-MaKey sends keystrokes to the computer based on what metal pad is connected to "ground," which is the strip of metal at the bottom of the board.
drum kit:This is a really simple drum kit that one of our members built. I use it to test interfaces, and it is a good example of an easy use of control and sound blocks. | jared o'leary:Mr. O'Leary and the students at his school do a lot of work with Scratch and MaKey-MaKey. He has tons of projects you can check out on his website. |
